About

I design universal, efficient and certified algorithms for the study of the real solutions of polynomial systems — algorithms whose answers are never wrong (they may say "I don't know", never something false), and fast enough to be used on real problems. My priorities are set by long-standing applications in robotics, control theory and mathematics, and by the software that carries these algorithms to users: my solvers are the default tools behind real root isolation and parametric solving in Maple.

After a PhD at IRMAR (Rennes, 1996), I joined Inria in Nancy (Loria), then moved to Paris: Laboratoire d'Informatique de Paris 6 (2000–2003), Inria Rocquencourt, and since 2011 the Institut de Mathématiques de Jussieu – Paris Rive Gauche, where I lead the Inria project-team OURAGAN. I also co-direct PACE (Project on Algebraic Computations for Engineering), the joint laboratory of Inria and Safran Electronics & Defense created in 2025, together with Guillaume Rance (Safran). PACE brings certified algebraic computation to robotics, robust control and geolocation. I have been a Research Director at Inria since 2006.
