Closed-loop model for single-ventricle circulation and parameter estimation
Research in this area is part of the translatlantic network of excellence in: Multi-scale Modeling of Single Ventricle Hearts for Clinical Decision Support, and is ongoing work.
The Model
The following closed-loop model of circulation is proposed
Closed-loop model for single-ventricle circulation (shunt physiology)
For heart chambers, the model proposed in Arts et. al. [1] is used, and the model by Mynard et. al. [2] is used to described valve-mechanics.
Parameter estiamtion Data-assimilation is used to combine a variety of clinical measurements with varying uncertainty, ranging from MRI to Doppler velocimetry to pressure catheters, such that the model output closely reproduces the clnical observations.
